from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Torsten Kröger (born February 22, 1977 in Rendsburg ) is a German engineer and university professor.

He is professor at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology and director of the Institute for Anthropomatics and Robotics and is responsible for Intelligent Process Automation and Robotics (IPR). He is also a visiting scholar at Stanford University.

Career and research

Torsten Kröger received his master's degree in electrical engineering from the TU Braunschweig in 2002. He also studied electrical engineering (Dipl.-Ing.) At the TU Braunschweig and obtained his doctorate in computer science in 2009 (summa cum laude). His dissertation dealt with the topic "On- Line Trajectory Generation in Robotic Systems ".

In 2010 he joined the Stanford AI Lab as a lecturer and research assistant . He has done research in a variety of topics, such as autonomous robotic systems, real-time path generation, perception , sensor fusion .

From 2014 to 2017 he worked as a robotics specialist and finally as a division manager for robot software at the company X: The Moonshot Factory , which is part of the Alphabet Group .

His core research interests lie in the areas of autonomous systems using data-driven approaches (e.g. machine learning) and deterministic motion planning and control of dynamic systems in real time. The areas of application of his research results include a. Industrial robotics and automation, service robotics, medical robotics as well as haptic input devices and space telescopes.

Kröger has also gained experience as a consultant for Volkswagen , KUKA , Manz Automation , Auris Surgical Robotics, Redwood Robotics and Google worldwide.

He is the founder and former managing director of Reflexxes, a startup that brought real-time deterministic robot motion planning software to the market. In 2014, Reflexxes was taken over by Google, where Kröger was responsible for robot software until 2017.
