history

Manz AG was founded in 1987 by Dieter Manz under the name Manz Automatisierungstechnik GmbH.

After going public in the Entry Standard of the Frankfurt Stock Exchange in 2006, Manz shares were admitted to the regulated market (Prime Standard) in 2008. Since Manz had developed over the years from an automation specialist to a provider of integrated production lines, the name was changed from Manz Automation AG to Manz AG with effect from July 14, 2011. Manz AG produces a. a. for Apple .

Milestones

In 1990 the first automation system for processing crystalline solar cells was developed in pilot production. Four years later, the company delivered the first automation solution for the display industry to Asia. The first delivery of an automation system for fully automated production lines for crystalline solar cells took place in 2000. In 2005 the company entered the thin-film market with a system for the mechanical structuring of solar modules. In September 2012, Manz presented a CIGS solar module that was manufactured on a mass production system and, with 14.6 percent efficiency on the total module area and 15.9 percent on the aperture area, had an efficiency that was previously unattainable in the industry.

In April 2015, Manz increased this value again and achieved another world record in the field of CIGS thin-film solar technology with 16 percent efficiency on module format.

Acquisitions and location expansions

On January 1, 2008, the basis for entering the lithium-ion battery market was created with the acquisition of Christian Majer in Tübingen GmbH & Co. KG (systems for packaging and film processing). Manz Slovakia was also founded in 2008 and Intech Machines (Taiwanese market leader for wet chemical processes in display production) was taken over.

Manz Coating GmbH in Karlstein, a development center for vacuum coating technology, was founded in 2010.

Manz AG and Würth Solar GmbH & Co. KG signed a know-how licensing and cooperation agreement on July 16, 2010, which regulated the exclusive licensing of the production technology for CIGS photovoltaic modules from Würth Solar to Manz. In addition, Manz secured support from Würth Solar in the planning, implementation and commissioning of the production systems for CIGS modules in the cooperation agreement. With the takeover of the CIGS innovation line from Würth Solar on January 1, 2012, the licenses and know-how from Würth Solar - also from the research cooperation with the Center for Solar Energy and Hydrogen Research Baden-Württemberg ( ZSW ) - went unreservedly to Manz AG over.

In 2012, Manz CIGS Technology GmbH was founded in Schwäbisch Hall and a new plant was opened in Suzhou (China).

In 2014 Manz took over the mechanical engineering division of KEMET Electronics Italy (formerly Arcotronics) to expand skills in the field of battery production.

With the acquisition of KLEO, a Carl Zeiss AG company , Manz was able to further expand its know-how in the field of direct laser exposure in 2015.

In January 2017, a research joint venture and a so-called equipment joint venture for sales and maintenance of CIGS thin-film solar modules are founded with China Shenhua Energy and Shanghai Electric . A production line for solar modules with a capacity of 306 megawatts per year and a research line with a capacity of 44 megawatts per year are to be built in China .

Shareholder structure

In May 2016, the Chinese conglomerate Shanghai Electric acquired a 19.67% stake in Manz AG.

  • 45.78%, free float
  • 28.09%, family Manz / Dieter Manz
