Torsten Weil

Torsten Weil (born July 1, 1970 in Cottbus ) is a German politician ( Die Linke ) and State Secretary in the Thuringian Ministry of Infrastructure and Agriculture . He is part of the Ramelow II cabinet and is responsible for forestry and agriculture.

Professional background

Torsten Weil studied law at the University of Potsdam between 1991 and 1993 . In the meantime he worked in the Brandenburg state parliament as a personal advisor to the then state parliament member Helmuth Markov . Subsequently, he studied at the administrative college of Schleswig-Holstein and in 2002 obtained a degree in administrative management.

After ten years of administrative employment in the Schleswig-Holstein State Office for Road Construction and Transport and the Federal Financial Supervisory Authority in Bonn, he became managing director of the DIE LINKE parliamentary group in the Hamburg parliament in 2012. He supported the regional association up to the 2015 mayor elections.

He then worked for almost a year as a personal advisor to Wulf Gallert , the then chairman of the DIE LINKE parliamentary group. Saxony-Anhalt. In June 2016 he moved to Thuringia and became the new office manager of Prime Minister Bodo Ramelow and thus part of the Thuringian State Chancellery .

After the new elections to the Thuringian Parliament in October 2019 and Ramelow's re-election in March 2020, Weil was appointed State Secretary in the Ministry of Infrastructure and Agriculture on March 4. During the 8th legislative period, he shares the work areas with State Secretary Susanna Karavansky .

Political career

In the 1990s, Torsten Weil was mainly involved in party politics. Between 1990 and 1999 he was a member of the state board of the PDS Brandenburg and from 1991 to 1997 even held the position of deputy state chairman. In the following years he was involved in various district boards of his former place of residence, before he was elected to the state board of LINKEN for four years in 2012.
