Total Devastation is a Finnish industrial and death metal band from Karhula that was formed in 1998.

history

The band was founded in the summer of 1998 by the singers Jaakko Heinonen and Lauri Pikka. The name Total Devastation was borrowed from a song from the Impaled Nazarene album Rapture , which was released that same year. The first demo Roadmap of Pain was recorded with the instruments programmed by a computer. Four more demos followed by 2002. The demo Divine-Ecstasy from 2001 was also voted demo of the month in the Metal Hammer . Through the 2002 demo Left Hand of the Devil , the band got a contract with Firebox Records . Meanwhile, the brothers Saku (electric guitar) and Pasi Hakuli (electric bass) were also in the band, while Lauri Pikka's brother Jarmo played the drums, and their third brother Harri had also been with the band as guitarist for some time. The debut album Roadmap of Pain was released via Firebox Records , with the album largely consisting of songs that were already included on the previous demos and were only re-recorded. The recordings for this took place in Tuomo Valtonen's Sundicoop Studio . The album was also released through Cargo Records . The second album, Reclusion , was recorded in Janne Saksa's Sound Supreme Studio in the fall of 2004. An autopsy cover song was featured on the album as a bonus song. In the spring of 2006, the band returned to the Sound Supreme Studio to record the album Wreck . The album was released that same year. The albums Honor the Disorder and Satama were released via Stabbing Records in 2008 and 2012 .

style

On Roadmap to Pain exists, according to Gunnar Sauermann from Metal Hammer , the backbone of "Death'n ' Grind with two deep down guitars, mangy-growling vocal cords and the massive-driving drums". There are also many electronic and programmed elements. According to Markus Jakob from Metal Hammer, the band plays modern death metal on Reclusion , whereby the band "also works with relaxed elements such as keyboards and playful melodies". The album has a “typically Scandinavian sound”, with “an extremely cold, sterile and murderous mood” prevailing on the album. On Wreck , according to Jan Fleckhaus from Metal Hammer , the band offers a mixture of classic Death Metal and new approaches, with influences from groups such as Black Sabbath , Strapping Young Lad , Morbid Angel , Death and Entombed . The singing style, the riffing and the sound of the electric guitars would be reminiscent of albums like Left Hand Path or Scream Bloody Gore . The use of the keyboard would be reminiscent of Black Metal . In addition, industrial samples and calm passages would also be used.
