Scream Bloody Gore is the debut album by the American death metal band Death . It is considered to be one of the earliest and most important death metal albums and contains strong thrash metal influences. The "bloody" lyrics and their borrowings from the horror film later became a model for many death metal bands.

History of origin

After a brief interlude with Slaughter , Chuck Schuldiner returned to Florida in 1986 to continue with Death. In San Francisco he met Chris Reifert . With him he recorded the mutilation demo and began working on the debut album. In July 1986, recording began in a Florida studio. This had to be canceled due to technical problems and the other recordings took place under the direction of Randy Burns in the Music Grinder Studios in Hollywood . During the mixing process, Reifert and Schuldiner met the guitarist John Hand and took him on as the second guitarist. John Hand appears on the album's back cover, but was not involved in the recording. Shortly after the album was released, he left the group. The record cover was designed by Ed Repka .
