Human is the fourth studio album by the American death metal band Death . It was released in 1991.

History of origin

The tour for the previous album Spiritual Healing turned into a fiasco. Chuck Schuldiner refused to play the European tour. The rest of the band traveled to Europe alone and went through the tour without a band leader Schuldiner. Louie Carrisalez, the former drummer of Devastation, took care of the vocals. The guitar was played by Walt Thrashler. After the band came back from the tour, Chuck Schuldiner kicked all musicians out of the band. Drummer Bill Andrews and bassist Terry Butler returned to Massacre . James Murphy started out at Obituary .

Schuldiner brought Steve DiGiorgio (among others active with Sadus ), as well as Sean Reinert from Cynic and Paul Masvidal (also Cynic, among others also active with Master ) into the band to record the technically demanding songs. The album is considered a milestone in the death metal genre.

A video clip was recorded for the song “Lack of Comprehension”.

The Japanese version of the album contains a cover version of the song “God of Thunder” by “ Kiss ” as a bonus track .

Music genre

Human shows a clear further development of Schuldiner. The brutal passages from earlier albums are still there, but alternate with jazzy parts. Sean Reinert and Paul Masvidal played a similar style in their main band, Cynic. The lyrics of Death also move away from the earlier horror themes and later social criticism towards demanding, profound lyrics.
