Spiritual Healing is the third studio album by the American death metal band Death . It is the band's last album with a cover by Ed Repka .
background
Founding member Rick Rozz (electric guitar) has been replaced by James Murphy. Eric Greif, the band's manager at the time, plays the keyboard on the theme song Spiritual Healing . Chuck Schuldiner used the main riff of Legion of Doom , which can be found on the 1983 demo Death by Metal , in the theme song Spiritual Healing .
The band members stayed in a motel room near Busch Gardens in Florida to record and mix the album with Scott Burns in six weeks. Bassist Terry Butler and drummer Bill Andrews, however, often left the band and went home because they lived near the motel.
According to his own statements, Schuldiner recorded the bass tracks himself, as with the previous album Leprosy .
Spiritual Healing is the last Death album to feature drummer Bill Andrews, guitarist James Murphy and bassist Terry Butler, because Schuldiner replaced them with new musicians in 1991, as they went on a European tour with a guest singer after the album was released without his consent .
Music style and lyrics
On Spiritual Healing , the band found their “totally characteristic mixture of brutal Death Metal, clear progressive inserts and traditional Heavy Metal attitude”. The lyrics are no longer about violence, but are socially critical and deal with issues such as abortion .
