The Sound of Perseverance is the seventh music album by the American death metal band Death and the last of the band before frontman Chuck Schuldiner's death in 2001.
History of origin
Chuck Schuldiner deliberately planned this album as the last Death album, although at the time of publication he could not have realized that he would die of a tumor three years later . According to his own statement, the vocal style in Death Metal bored him . He had previously founded the band Control Denied and wanted to break new ground with them. The line-up of this band supported him with the recording of The Sound of Perseverance . Some songs on the album were even originally intended for the Control Denied debut album . The song Painkiller is a cover version of Judas Priest . The song "Spirit Crusher" was released as a single, and a music video was released for the song.
Music genre
One of the clearest differences that distinguishes this album from the previous ones is the distinctive voice of band leader Chuck Schuldiner, which this time is much higher and more screeching. The progressive metal elements, which were already introduced on the album Symbolic , also come to light more clearly .
In 2005 a special edition of the album was released with an additional bonus DVD Live in Cottbus .
The album reached number 60 in the German album charts and number 35 in the Austrian charts.
