The Heilig Kreuz church is located in the Süggerath district in the city of Geilenkirchen in North Rhine-Westphalia . It is a listed building as an architectural monument.

location

The three-aisled church is the center of the place. The three-axle rectory is in close proximity to the church. The parish hall was then built. Between church and street, the war memorial commemorates the fallen and missing soldiers of the two world wars.

history

The nave of the church, built around 1500, was dilapidated around the middle of the 19th century. After several suggestions, the architect Ferdinand Robert Cremer from Aachen planned a new church in 1869. The church was completed in 1877 while retaining the old chancel. It was inaugurated on May 27, 1893. The damage from the war years 1944/45 was repaired in 1947.

architecture

The church is a three-nave brick - pseudo basilica in three rib-vaulted Jochen , with triumphal arch , choir bay and five-sided choir . On the left is a sacristy from the time the choir was built, and on the right is a sacristy from the 19th century. The three-story, front-built tower has an eight-sided helmet .
