St. Johann Evangelist (Prumer)
The Catholic Church of St. Johann Evangelist has its location in the Primer district of the city of Geilenkirchen in North Rhine-Westphalia .
location
The three-aisled church is the center of the place. The old cemetery was located on the present open space by the church until the 1950s . Starting from the church, roads lead in all four directions .
history
The first church, a hall church , was built in 1130 and consecrated by a bishop in 1137 . However, in 1470 a late Gothic brick church was built as a two-aisled hall with a west tower. In 1922 an extension was completed on the south aisle . In November 1944 the church tower was blown up by St. Johann Evangelist , but rebuilt after the war. Otherwise, the church suffered severe damage in the Second World War . In 1985 the inside was renovated. The church is a listed building .
architecture
The church is a late Gothic brick construction, in 1922 according to the plans of the Cologne architect Heinrich Forthmann from two to three ships has been enhanced. The restoration of the late Gothic church after severe war damage was carried out in 1962 under the direction of the architect Heinrich Egger from Erkelenz . In 1985 the choir room was redesigned. The architect was Heinz Döhmen from Mönchengladbach . A three-story tower is built on the west side of the church. The sacristy is located on the east side of the church behind the choir, which is closed on three sides .
Furnishing
- The organ with 12 registers and electric action from 1964 was built by the company Karl Kamp from Aachen .
- In the church tower there are five bells from 1476, 1575 and 1959. A sixth bell from 1352 serves as a holy water font in the entrance area.
- A tower clock is built into the church tower , which shows the time in all directions and lets it sound acoustically .
- Stained glazing
- Memorial plaques for the fallen and missing soldiers of the two world wars
- Altar made of bluestone , baptismal font from 1560, tabernacle , several wooden figures of saints, candlesticks from 1672, confessional .
