The St. Willibrord Church is located in the Teveren district in the city of Geilenkirchen in North Rhine-Westphalia . It is a listed building as an architectural monument.

location

The three-aisled church is in the northern part of the village. In the immediate vicinity of the church is the listed rectory from 1781.

history

The 15th century church had to be demolished because of the risk of collapse. The tower was not affected, but was included in the new building . In 1864 the community commissioned the building inspector Ferdinand Robert Cremer from Aachen to build a new church, which was built in 1868/69. In 1937/38 the interior of the church was painted by the painter Ernst Jansen-Winkeln from Mönchengladbach . In 1980 the celebration altar was made from the communion bench . After the original painting from the construction period was uncovered, it was restored in 1988/89 by Willi Sevenich from Aachen.

architecture

The church is a rib-vaulted, three-nave brick - Hall , with four yokes , a choir bay and a five-sided enclosed choir . There are sacristies to the right and left of the choir . In front of the church is a three-storey west tower with an eight-sided helmet broken halfway up .
