St. Peter in Immendorf

The church of St. Peter in the district of Immendorf in the city of Geilenkirchen in North Rhine-Westphalia is a listed building.

location

The three-aisled church on Dürener Straße is the center of the village.

history

The first mention of a church in Immendorf can be found in 1308 in Liber valoris , the book of values of the churches of the Diocese of Cologne . The tower and choir date from around 1400, the nave from around 1500.

The three-aisled, late Gothic hall church was partially destroyed in the Second World War. During the reconstruction in 1955/56, the remaining parts of the building were included in the new building . A modern church with modern window glazing and a free-standing tower was created. The solemn consecration was on November 13, 1960. The choir was redesigned in 1975.

architecture

The east choirs are built in brick. This is followed by a reinforced concrete structure in full width , with the reinforced concrete supports indicating the three destroyed naves of the church. The west wall is made of quarry stone , the north and south walls consist almost entirely of colored glass . Only narrow longitudinal and transverse ribs stabilize the walls and give them a honeycomb appearance. In the west, a two-storey connecting wing adjoins the south wall, to which the tower is attached.
