The Utah State Route 154 (SR-154) or Bangerter Highway (named after the former governor of Utah Norman H. Bangerter ) is a largely level expressway in Salt Lake City that runs from Draper, Utah westwards and northwards through the west Part of it runs from Salt Lake County to Salt Lake City International Airport .
After more than twenty years of planning, construction began in 1988 and approval was granted in stages by 1998. The route is predominantly developed with six lanes and mostly in separate lanes.
The original plans were for a route through the western suburbs of Salt Lake City, which should lead the Bangerter Highway north of Salt Lake City International Airport into Davis County . The planned routes north of the airport were never planned, while the original south end was extended from Redwood Road to Interstate 15 .
history
The route designated between 1933 and 1969 as Utah State Route 154 was 80 miles to the north and ran in the north of the state of Utah from Garland near Tremonton and ended north of Collinston, seven miles away . At that time, it was the connection between 1927 and 1962 designated Utah State Route 41, today's Utah State Route 82 and the former Utah State Route 69, part of today's Utah State Route 30 .
In the 1960s, planning began for a West Valley Highway as a federally funded project. They largely described today's route from the curve between Utah State Route 68 and 15300 South north to Interstate 80 and led west around the then "Salt Lake City Municipal Airport No. 1 ”, today's Salt Lake City International Airport, following the curve of 4000 West in an eastward direction, ending at 2200 North and ending at Interstate 215 .
In 1989, the "Utah Transportation Commission", an independent traffic committee, proposed to lead the "West Valley Highway" as "State Route 154" and the then new design of a corridor, the Interstate 15 west with the 13400 South level to connect the 3200 West, as well as to implement the old design to connect the Interstate 80 north .
Funding for the project was approved from the general state budget at the initiative of Governor Norman H. Bangerter , a longtime resident of West Valley City. Then the section between the 2100 South ( Utah State Route 201 ) and the 3500 South ( Utah State Route 171 ) was opened on November 26, 1991, whereupon the Transport Committee proposed in May 1993 to name the route after Bangerter. The last section to Interstate 15 was opened to traffic on November 17, 1998.
Traffic flow optimization
In 2007, the intersection at 3500 South ( Utah State Route 171 ) was converted into a continuous-flow intersection , as it was used by up to 100,000 vehicles on weekdays. By 2012, six more junctions up to 7000 South ( Utah State Route 48 ) had been rebuilt in this way, eliminating avoidable traffic conflicts. The junction to the 2100 South Freeway ( Utah State Route 201 ), a diamond , has been expanded into the Diverging Diamond Interchange .
Stretching course
The entire route is in Salt Lake County , within the urban areas of Draper Bluffdale , Riverton , South Jordan , West Jordan , Taylorsville , West Valley City, and Salt Lake City
