Toundra is a Spanish instrumental rock band formed in Madrid in 2007 .
history
Toundra was formed by ex-members of the Spanish groups Nacen de las Cenizas and Ten Minute Man .
The band released their first EP in December 2007, which was named (I). The band's first studio album, also called (I), was distributed by Astoria Records . A little later it was republished under the new theme "Genesis". A few months later, drummer Guillermo left the band, who was then replaced by Álex Pérez . In November 2009, they changed record labels and went to Aloud Music . In May 2010, the band's second album followed with the name (II). The free download policy of the Spanish label ensured a growing following. Toundra took part in the Primavera Sound Festival (2010) in Barcelona and during this time became known in other European countries. After the success of their second album, they went on a tour through Spain. In 2011 they played again at the Primavera Sound Festival , as well as other renowned festivals such as DCode in Madrid or the Resurrection Festival in Vivero. In September 2012 they released their third studio album (III), again with good sales. After the release of the third album, the band performed at various festivals such as the Festival Internacional de Benicàssim (FIB), the Primavera Sound and the Resurrection Festival . Their fourth album (IV) was no longer released by Aloud Music , but by Superball Music in 2014 .
The illustrative design of the album covers (II - IV) was carried out by Chelsea Greene Lewyta.
The cooperation with the flamenco singer Niño de Elche led to a joint production under the name Exquirla . The album, entitled Para quienes aún viven (For those who are still alive) was released in 2016.
style
The style of Toundra can best be compared with the characteristics of post-rock or post-metal , as it is also characteristic of bands like Caspian , Long Distance Calling or Russian Circles .
