Bad Gleichenberg tourism schools

It was founded in 1946 as an initiative of the Styrian Tourism Section of the Chamber of Commerce as a two-year hotel management school in Pichl an der Enns (Pichlmayrgut) in Schladming . In 1949 the hotel management school was relocated to Bad Gleichenberg and opened in November with 79 students. The students were accommodated in the Villa Possenhofen, the actual main building of the hotel management school in Bad Gleichenberg. The Possenhofen was built in 1874 by Gottfried Höflinger - a native of Vienna, mayor of Gleichenberg and coffee house owner in Varaždin - as a villa hotel in the style of the founder's palace. It was named after the Possenhofen Castle on Lake Starnberg, where the Bavarian Duchess Elisabeth , who later became Empress of Austria, spent her youth. In Bad Gleichenberg it was hoped that the Empress would come to the cure one day and live in Possenhofen. In 1957 the Styrian Hotel Management School Association was founded by the Styrian Chamber of Commerce, the specialist group for restaurants and bars and the specialist group for accommodation providers. In 1961 a two-year hospitality school was established. In 1967 the new school building erected next to it (investment volume 10 million schillings; number of students 254) was moved into.
