Tower was a symphonic rock band from Leiden , the Netherlands . The band was founded in 1981, but broke up again in 1984. The formation played melodic symphonic rock and pop in Europe with original and atypical instrumentation and elements of classical music , including violin support. She was best known for her single Goin 'Home , which was among the top 20 in the European charts in 1982 in Belgium and the Netherlands, among others.

history

Tower was founded as a Dutch group from the city of Leiden and the surrounding area, consisting of Marian Pijnaker (lead vocals), High Ton Boom (drums), Cor van der Hoogt (vocals, guitar), Henk Van Loon (keyboard, vocals) and Ben Peterzen ( Bass). In 1982 the band released their only studio album titled Titan for the Dutch label Dureco Benelux. The album was produced and co-written by Cat Music. Tower had already released their first single, See You Tonight , a year earlier. The single reached eleventh place in the Dutch Top 40.

The band based their music on successful British rock bands and pop icons of their time such as the group Queen , Electric Light Orchestra or the music of singer Kim Wilde . With the second single from the symphonic power pop ballad Goin 'Home , the band made it into the Dutch charts for 6 weeks and climbed to number 15. In neighboring Belgium , they made it to number 19 and were at least 3 weeks there. In Germany , the title was represented in the charts for a week in 1982. In the same year, the title Goin 'Home was also featured on the rock sampler High Life - Unabridged Original Top-Hits Winter 82/83, a compilation of the Polystar music label .

After the initial successes, Get Back and the title track Titan were two more numbers from the Titan album . In 1983 and 1984, Hey Amigo and It's Allright , two independent singles followed, but they never made it into the charts. Soon after, the group fell apart. Marian Pijnaker and Van Hoogt formed a new group called Split Decision in 1985 . However, this formation only made one single called Action . Then the Duo Fantastique was formed . From 1991 to 2007 Marian Pijnaker was the lead singer of the band Utility . After that, they founded together with Ben Schutte Jr., the duo Second Avenue . Van der Hoogt is now the singer and guitarist of the Dutch formation De Stevige Staartmannen .

On the occasion of the 1982 album Titan , Tower gave a reunion concert after 30 years on September 15, 2012 in Zoeterwoude in the Netherlands.

As a result of the reunion, a new tower song entitled Show me was released on YouTube in 2013 . Another tower composition followed on YouTube in 2015 with the song Rainfall (Special Edition - Dedicated to Michel).
