The Toyota GR Super Sport Concept is a study of a two-seater sports car from Toyota Gazoo Racing presented in 2018 .

General

The GR Super Sport Concept was presented to the public for the first time in January 2018 at the Tokyo Auto Salon . The white-painted body of the vehicle supercar designed-typical flat and wide and modern safety standards according to a carbon - monocoque mounted. At the front there are large air inlets which direct the air through ducts behind the front wheels to the sides of the vehicle while driving. The technology is based on that of the Le Mans prototype Toyota TS050 Hybrid . The V6 twin-turbo engine with 2.4 liter displacement, and the Toyota hybrid system Racing (THS-R) -called hybrid system were taken directly from the TS050. The system output is 735 kW (1000 PS). The study has 18 inch rims and Bridgestone slicks in the dimensions 330 / 710R18. Series production with road approval is planned in small numbers. A date for the start of production is not yet known.

Le Mans 2020

In 2018, the FIA and the ACO confirmed that they would replace the existing LMP1 category with a new hypercar class from the 2020 season . In this new class, sports cars will compete in the context of the FIA World Endurance Championship , which are supposed to resemble road vehicles more than previous Le Mans prototypes do. Toyota is among the manufacturers involved in creating the new category. The Toyota GR Super Sport Concept is seen as a preview of what will later become vehicles in the hypercar class.
