The Trölladyngja ( Isl. Troll Shield Volcano ) is a shield volcano in Iceland's highlands . It is located on the municipal boundary between Þingeyjarsveit and Skútustaðahreppur .
The volcano is located north of Vatnajökull in the Ódáðahraun lava desert, over which it rises about 600 m. The volcano has a diameter of about 10 km, making it the largest shield volcano in Iceland. Its crater is 100 m deep with a length of 1200 m and a width of 500 m. Most of its lava flowed to the north. Part of it flowed 100 km to the northwest to the Bárðardalur valley . The river Skjálfandafljót flows through the valley and falls further north over the Goðafoss .
