The Traditional Jazz Studio (Prague) is a Czech band the New Orleans Jazz and Swing , the 1959 Studijní skupiny tradičního jazzu in Prague plays was established and "with a masterful command of the instruments and a rare traditional jazz sense of form."

history

Ivan and Pavel Smetáček started the band with six other students from the Prague Conservatory . The formation appeared at an international level early on, including in western countries; In 1965 she won first prize at the International Amateur Jazz Festival in Düsseldorf, where her saxophonist Hanuš Berka was also honored. They were also successful at the Zurich Jazz Festival in 1966 and 1967. The Traditional Jazz Studio toured worldwide and also performed with American guest musicians.

The band's repertoire also includes original compositions such as “V sedmém poschodí” or “Tulák Budulínek” and Czech compositions from the 1920s and 1930s, for example by Jaroslav Ježek . The group was involved in 60 recording sessions between 1959 and 1991, which resulted in 20 albums. Due to the diplomatic activities of its head, Pavel Smetáček, it has only appeared occasionally since the 1990s.
