Trampoline (shipbuilding)
In multihulls, a trampoline is a durable, water-permeable, coarse or fine- meshed , woven or knotted material. It performs a similar function to a deck . The trampoline is stretched flat and taut between the hulls to give the boat stability and strength and allows the crew to move quickly and easily from one side of the boat to the other. Various demands are made on the cloth, which can consist of yarn or polyester , for example , such as:
- Aging and weather resistance (especially against ultraviolet radiation and salt water )
- High tensile and abrasion resistance
- Water permeability
- Weight
- elegance
In sailing catamarans , the trampoline is also used to attach the riding straps or sailing equipment.
