Transtec was founded in 1980 by Bernhard Bruscha in Tübingen. Bruscha supplied the computer market for the Digital Equipment Corporation (DEC) . Seven years later transtec began to set up its own production. In 1991 the corporate form changed from a GmbH to a stock corporation. Four years later, the company entered the Internet and the entire product range was available online. In 1998 transtec AG went public. The share was listed on the Neuer Markt . transtec entered the telecommunications market in the same year. In 2000 transtec founded tec2b AG , which was sold three years later. The Cluster / Storage Competence Center was also founded in 2003. The paper has been listed on the Stuttgart Stock Exchange since February 2004 . Triplestor GmbH was also taken over in 2004, and in 2006 transtec bought the specialist retail brand Lynx . In December 2014 transtec AG moved to the Technology Park Tübingen-Reutlingen . Before that, the company had been based in Tübingen Waldhörnlestrasse for over 30 years.

In April 2017, it was communicated to the market via ad hoc announcement that the intention was to submit an application to initiate protective shield proceedings in accordance with Section 270b InsO due to impending insolvency. The associated attempt at renovation was declared to have failed. On July 27, 2017, the executive board / CEO of transtec AG, Mario Kuhn, announced in a circular email that business operations would be discontinued.

Transtec Computer AG in Switzerland was the only subsidiary to be taken over by an investor and was able to continue its business activities.
