About this picture

Wangen-Brüttisellen is a municipality in the district of Uster in the canton of Zurich in Switzerland . Until 1976 the community was officially called Wangen (ZH) .

geography

Wangen is located in the Glatttal in the northern part of the Usters district . While the Brüttisellen district has grown together practically completely with Zurich's industrial suburbs Dietlikon and Wallisellen , where large shopping centers in particular alternate with modern residential developments, Wangen has largely retained its rural, rural character with its half-timbered buildings. The geographical center of the Canton of Zurich is in Wangen .

history

The village was first mentioned in 1148 as Britisseldon and then from 1242 as Wangen apud Glatto .

A burial mound from the Hallstatt period (800–500 BC), the Wieslistein in Wangen and Roman finds in the Lindenbuck area near Brüttisellen bear witness to the area's early settlement.

In 1192 Wangen was donated by the Toggenburgers to the Johanniterkomturei Bubikon for their foundation. Brüttisellen, which was the seat of a knightly dynasty in the 13th century, is said to have later paid interest to Rapperswil . From 1534 to 1541 the reformer Ulrich Bolt was pastor in Wangen. In 1618 the fallen into financial difficulties Bubikon sold his Wangemer justice of Zurich and the lower courts went to the bailiff of Kyburg .

The two parts cheeks and Brüttisellen ( six hundred eighty-nine thousand nine hundred fifty-five  /  253310 ) form a municipality since the 1831st

Since the beginning of 2009, the Swiss air navigation service provider Skyguide has had a large location on the edge of Wangen between Brüttiseller Kreuz and the Dübendorf military airfield .

coat of arms

Coat of arms of the Brüttisellen district

Blazon In silver, a leafy green hemp stem with a golden inflorescence.

The hemp stem has been the coat of arms of Wangen-Brüttisellen since the resolution of the municipal assembly on December 14, 1934.

The Brüttiseller "Rose"

In 1384 Brüttisellen is said to have come to the Toggenburgs. When the village was ravaged by the plague in the Middle Ages, only 2 sisters are said to have survived. They later married in Rapperswil, which means that Brüttisellen, the "rose town", is liable for interest.

The Wangemer "hemp stem"

In 1743, the Meiss lexicon showed the Wangem coat of arms in red, a green deciduous tree - probably a linden tree - on a green background. In the municipality of Brüttisellen, this coat of arms can be identified as a stone carving from 1826 above the door of the Massjuchert schoolhouse. The sign was still attached to the fire brigade's top in 1886. At that time, however, a second coat of arms had already spread: a green hemp stalk in a silver field. The representation probably goes back to the coat of arms of Krauer around 1860 and appears only a little later on the male choir flag. Since Lindau wanted to run the linden tree, the Wangen municipal assembly decided on December 14, 1934 for the coat of arms with the hemp stem.
