Ulrich Bolt

Ulrich Bolt (hometown of Lachen in the canton of Schwyz ; † uncertain, after 1541) was a Reformed pastor who was particularly involved in the reformation of numerous communities in the canton of Graubünden .

Life

Originally a Catholic priest , Bolt came into conflict with the canonical provisions on celibacy . His marriage caused a break with the papal church .

Bolt took up his first pastor in Fläsch in the canton of Graubünden . Fläsch became the first Graubünden community to accept the new faith because of his commitment. Other communities in the Bündner Herrschaft as well as the entire Prättigau soon followed .

His acquaintance with Zwingli and other reformers in Zurich was strained early on by his tendency towards Anabaptist ideas. His brother Eberli Bolt died a martyr of the Anabaptist movement.

In 1527 he was publicly considered an Baptist and was imprisoned. His oath on the Reformed Doctrine saved him from torture and execution .

In 1528, apparently rehabilitated, he took part in the Bern disputation . In various pastors in Zurich and in the Central Plateau he was repeatedly noticed by his unbalanced character.

The last years of his life after his release in Wangen near Dübendorf are in the dark.
