Tranvia de la Loma

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Tranvía de la Loma was a tram in the province of Jaén in what is now the autonomous community of Andalusia in southern Spain , which ran from Linares via Canena and La Yedra to Úbeda . From this 22 km long connection branched off in La Yedra a five km long connection to Baeza .

history

Construction of the privately financed line in La Loma Úbeda began in 1905. The one-line Tranvia was put into operation in three construction phases in 1901, 1904 and December 8, 1907. The operator was Ferrocarril Eléctrico de La Loma SA. The first tram cars had a diesel engine that powered an electric motor . The types R.28 and R.30 from Ferrocarril Eléctrico had a capacity of 24 seats.

The privately built line from La Loma was nationalized and expanded in May 1936. The line was electrified and received a catenary . The fleet consisted of trams from the company Industria Eléctrica de Barcelona , which were operated with 600 volts direct current .

The widespread use of the automobile and a misjudgment of the local transport led to the fact that the operation of the tram was stopped in 1966. On January 15, 1966, the last Tranvía drove in La Loma.
