El Encuentro Trappist Abbey

The Trappistinnenabtei El Encuentro since 1971, a Mexican monastery of Trappist nuns in Ciudad Hidalgo in the state of Michoacan and in the Archdiocese of Morelia .

history

The French Trappist abbey Ubexy founded in 1971 in Rincón de San Jerónimo (12 km southwest of Ciudad Hidalgo at an altitude of 2200 m) the monastery "Abadía Madre de Dios El Encuentro" (Our Lady of Encounter), which was elevated to a priory in 1979 and an abbey in 1994 . The founding bishop was Archbishop Manuel Martín del Campo Padilla (1904–1972).
