Traugott Schreber

Traugott Schreber (born February 25, 1671 in Krempe ; † September 16, 1718 in Bremen ) was bailiff of the bailiwicks of Hatten and Wardenburg, landlord, cartographer and founder.

Schreber was the son of the Land Commissioner and Consistorial Councilor Christian Friedrich Schreber (1643–1711) and his wife Catharina nee Jülicher. He studied law in Leipzig from 1691 to 1693 and took the final exam at the University of Rinteln . In 1713 Schreber married Adelheid von Bobart (1685–1742) from Bremen. Traugott Schreber was only 47 years old. He was buried in Kirchhatten .

Professional background

As early as 1696, Traugott Schreber was appointed bailiff of the bailiffs of Hatten and Wardenburg by the Danish king . Because the king pledged the bailiwicks from 1711 to 1731, Schreber became a subject of the Electorate of Hanover from 1711 .

meaning

Schreber made precise records of his district and the people involved. His booklet Pro Memoria TS by Ambtsvogteyen Hatten and Wardenburg contains a multitude of meticulously created colored maps. All farm sites are marked with the names of their owners.

In 2018 and 2019, the Oldenburg Society for Family Studies provided information about Traugott Schreber in a traveling exhibition at various locations in the Oldenburger Land.
