Tremolo is an EP from My Bloody Valentine . It was released by Creation Records in February 1991 . The title refers to the heavy use of guitar tremolo and vibrato effects to create the band's fuzzy, dream-like sound. Kevin Shields' way of playing, "scraping" the chords in order to operate the tremolo / whammy pedal of his guitar, was called "glide guitar".
style
The title track, To Here Knows When , has a longer and more ethereal coda and is more of a song in its own right than the version found on the Loveless album. Swallow also has an instrumental coda; Honey Power has a wordless coda consisting of "ooh" and "aah" vocals. All three end pieces of the songs contain backwards played guitar loops and strong reverb . In November 1991, Kevin Shields commented:
" Tremolo had seven tracks on it, but you're not allowed to do that, so we called it four tracks and didn't name three of them. People just thought they were weird bits! "
“ Tremolo has seven tracks on it, but you can't do that, so we said there are four tracks and we just didn't name three of them. People just thought that these were weird bits of ambient. "
The cover photo, a blurred woman's face, also became one of the most popular designs for My Bloody Valentine fan t-shirts.
Angus Cameron shot music videos for the tracks Swallow and To Here Knows When .
reception
The professional music critic Robert Christgau gave the EP the grade A- (i.e. 1-). At allmusic the album received 4.5 / 5 points and so Nitsuh Abebe wrote:
“The titles appear as missing parts of the complete Loveless experience. And that the band put on such a masterpiece from the album after their incredibly long radio silence! Everything else that fans can get their hands on probably justifies the somewhat high price of this EP. "

↑ Engl. Original:
the songs seem like missing chapters in the total experience that is Loveless; and given the band's maddeningly long silence following such a masterpiece of an album, anything more that fans can get their hands on is probably worth the marked-up price this EP can fetch. - ↑ Tremolo: My Bloody Valentine - allmusic
