Trent Parke

Trent Parke (born March 20, 1971 in Newcastle , New South Wales , Australia ) is an Australian photographer , member of the Magnum Photos agency .

Life

Parke started out as a 12-year-old with his mother's Pentax Spotmatic and his parents' laundry room as a darkroom. For a long time his adopted home was the metropolis of Sydney , most recently he lived in Adelaide . He is married to Narelle Autio , who also emerged as a photographer , with whom he also works closely professionally and artistically. He often took on assignments as a sports photographer for New Ltd magazine . Parke founded his own agency Oculi in 1998 . Photographs of him have been purchased and exhibited by the National Gallery of Australia , National Gallery of Victoria , National Maritime Museum of Australia and the University of Sydney Union. In addition, his work is represented in numerous private collections.

Awards

Trent Parke has received numerous international and national awards as a photographer, including:

  • the World Press Photo Award 1999, 2000, 2001 and 2005
  • the W. Eugene Smith Prize (2003) for the photo reportage Minutes to Midnight about Australia at the beginning of the 21st century
  • the Canon Photo Essay Award (part of the Sasakawa World Sports Awards ) (2000)
  • Election to the World Press Photo Masterclass 1999
  • a total of five Gold Lenses awards in 1996, 1997, 1998 from the International Olympic Committee
  • a solo exhibition of Minutes to Midnight at the Australian Center for Photography (ACP) in Sydney in January / February 2005
  • further solo exhibitions in New York City, London and Germany.
