A pedal car is a miniature car made especially for children .

These vehicles are treading pedals moved earlier by simple pendulum pedals, since the 1960s with the introduction of pedal cars the company Kettler like a bicycle .

Simple models are still offered today with pendulum pedals and are mostly made of plastic ; in the past they were made of tinplate , which is why the old pieces belong to the tin toys category . Today, such game models are collected by lovers. Manfred Klauda owned probably the world's largest collection of pedal cars ; it was exhibited in his Center for Extraordinary Museums in Munich .

The first pedal car was presented in New York in 1853 at the Exhibition of the Industry of All Nations World's Fair . The first pedal cars were only manufactured in Germany around 1900. Often they were based on real car models. They had hand brakes , horns , indicators and upholstered seats. One of the early manufacturers was the Löffler company in Hamburg , which was offering seven different models for children from three to 14 years of age as early as 1910 , including one with six seats. The Fürth toy wholesaler Moses Kohnstam ( Moko ) sold a wide range of children's cars up to 1.70 meter long convertibles with a folding roof at the end of the 1920s .

Even in the 21st century, individual car manufacturers offer pedal car models of their vehicles.
