Ima Ghafouri (born May 23, 1984 in Shiraz , Iran ), known as TriXstar , is a German-Iranian reggae and dancehall singer. Because of her Iranian origins and the associated stigmas, she flirts with the additions "Dancehall Terrorist" and "Terrorist of Love".

Career

At the age of 15, TriXstar began making music and discovering her voice. In the beginning she started with hip-hop , but soon afterwards began performing as an MC on drum and bass before she discovered her love for dancehall .

First publications followed in 2008, but only her support for the young Viennese fashion label "Conscious Clothings" opened the door to the Viennese reggae scene. This was followed by productions and publications with Bassrunner and Irievibrations Records , through which TriXstar was recognized nationwide for the first time. Further publications followed in 2012 in collaboration with Jugglerz and Boomrush Productions . After TriXstar was primarily at home in dancehall for the first few years, from 2013 classical reggae and rocksteady productions are increasingly found in their repertoire. In the following years she toured Europe and played a. a. at the festivals Reggae Jam , Summerjam , Reggae Geel , Afrika Tage Wien , Overjam Reggae Festival and Juicy Beats .

TriXstar has been in the management of Boomrush Productions since 2018 and has played her concerts exclusively with Boomrush Backup since then.

Vocally, TriXstar has developed a style that is between the Jamaican traditions of the Deejays and the Singjays . With her slightly rough, deep alto voice, she develops catchy melodies and harmonies that have a special, individual note and stand out from other reggae productions. The music is mainly reggae and dancehall, but TriXstar is not afraid to leave the genre boundaries and go beyond them.

TriXstar has consistently positive content in her texts. Even if at first glance her songs seem to be about the different facets of “seeking and finding love”, there is much more to it on closer inspection. Similar to how Bob Marley sang “Emancipate yourself from mental slavery” to remind the African-born Jamaicans that they can be proud of their culture and skin color and no longer have to subordinate themselves to society, TriXstar often features passages like “Rise up and shine ", with which it is aimed at those who feel socially and personally abused, humiliated and battered and encourages them to stand up for their rights and to grow beyond themselves. This is also aimed strongly at women in order to reaffirm them to break out of supposed gender-specific roles and to develop their potential as strong members of society.

In addition to music, TriXstar is also involved in the social field, in refugee work and stands up for women's rights.
