The Holy Triantaphyllos ( Greek . Τριαντάφυλλος * about 1665 , † 8. August 1680 ) is a martyr and saint of the Greek Orthodox Church . He was born in Zagora , the then Ottoman- controlled area of Greece , and lived as a fisherman in Constantinople . One day he was captured and tortured by the Turks while fishing because he refused to renounce his Christian faith and did not confess to Islam . He died under torture. According to legend, God rewarded his sacrifice by giving off a lovely fragrance from his bones.
A small church was built in his honor in Zagora.
