Trichophyton gourvilii is askin fungus that colonizesthe horny substance and primarily affects humans ( anthropophilic dermatophyte ). The species is only found in Africa. It causes skin lesions with fine scaling and mainly affects the head, arms and back of the hands. The fungus grows inside the hair (endotrich). The teleomorph is unknown.
Culture
Cultures of T. gourvilii show a distinct, irregular furrowing, so that folds reminiscent of snakes appear. The edge of a colony is 5 mm wide and has fine rays. In the edge area, the typical lavender color is particularly noticeable, which in the center turns into white in older cultures. The colony diameter reaches 15 to 30 mm on a Sabouraud glucose agar after 10 days.
Microscopically, the fungus resembles Trichophyton soudanense . Macro conidia only develop on rice media. They are smooth-edged and rounded at the poles. Their number of chambers is very variable and ranges up to eight, but two-chambered macroconidia dominate.
