The Type V , also called V-Wagen, describes the second generation of high-floor vehicles of the Vienna underground . It has been produced by Siemens since 2000 . These trains represent the successor to the type U railcars and their sub-types and run in the entire Vienna underground network except on the U6 line .

In 1998 the consortium from Siemens , Elin , Adtranz received the order to produce a new generation of vehicles for Vienna's underground railways with busbar operation, which was presented to the public in 2000. A type V train consists of six cars that cannot be separated during operation, the end cars being non-powered control cars (type v) between which four motorized intermediate cars (type V) run. The cab ends are equipped with Scharfenberg couplings, but these are only used as an emergency connection when pushing trains and shunting. They are not equipped with contact attachments, but the route network does not allow the use of twelve-car trains anyway. The sets were initially used on a trial basis on the extended U3 line, and later also on the other U1 , U2 and U4 lines .

Color scheme and design

Porsche Design was responsible for the exterior design of the sets . The paintwork corresponds to that of types T and T 1 . The exterior design of the new Type X is also based on the paintwork of the V-cars.
