MAX Light Rail

I-205 Light Rail Project

By 2009 the new so-called "green line" is to connect the suburbs of Clackamas and Milwaukie as well as the south-eastern part of Portland with a 10.4 km long section. The route leads along the I-205 motorway and includes eight stops (16 on both sides). The new route is to be operated with an interval of 15 minutes. 33,000 daily journeys are expected. The project is expected to cost $ 495 million.

Portland Mall Revitalization Project

Portland has a parallel street in the city center, through which most of the existing bus routes run. This is to ensure that it is very easy to get to the city center. Interest in these lines has decreased in recent years, which may result in a. is due to a relocation of the shopping streets. In order to revitalize the streets, Trimet is planning a new light rail line that runs exactly along these streets. Buses should use the same lanes. The project cost $ 495 million and is expected to be completed in 2009.

The first horse tram goes into operation in 1872. The first electric tram is introduced in Portland in 1890. By 1906 there were 28 tram lines in Portland.

After a long slow decline, the last line was discontinued in 1950. Since then, various bus companies have operated in the city of Portland and its region. Only in 1969 is a unified transport provider created again with the founding of Trimet.

1986 the first light rail line (blue) runs between Portland and Gresham . In 1998 the first extension of the blue line leads west of the city to the suburbs of Beaverton and Hillsboro .

In 2001 the red line to Portland Airport went into operation.

The third so-called yellow line will start operating in 2004 up to the exhibition grounds (Expo Center).

In addition to the light rail, there is also a tram network consisting of two lines, which in turn is operated by the "Portland Streetcar Incorporated".
