Trịnh Xuân Thuận (born August 20, 1948 in Hanoi , Vietnam ) is a Vietnamese-American astrophysicist .

Life

In 1974 he received his PhD in astrophysics from Princeton University . Since 1976 he has been a professor at the University of Virginia . He is a member of the International Society for Science . In the context of astrophysics, his specialty is the study of the galaxies beyond the Milky Way . He published nearly two hundred articles on the history of the formation of the elements from the Big Bang , on the formation of galaxies and evolution . In October 2002, Thuan took part in the science congress "Unity in Duality - Unity in Duality" in Munich together with eight scientists from the fields of astronomy, physics, chemistry, medicine and psychology and the Dalai Lama . After four days it was realized that the dualistic world view of science: wave and corpuscle is compatible with the idea of ​​a unity, which represents the common basis of all experiences. This meeting is an important station in the dialogue between Buddhist teaching and Western science.

Thuận became known as the author of popular science books on evolutionary fragments. His most important publications include: The Hidden Melody , The Fate of the Universe, and Chaos and Harmony . Trịnh Xuân Thuận was awarded the Kalinga Prize for the popularization of science in 2009 and the Prix ​​mondial Cino Del Duca in 2012.
