Erich Büttner
Erich Büttner (born October 7, 1889 in Berlin , † September 12, 1936 in Freiburg im Breisgau ) was a German expressionist of the Berlin Secession .
Life
Büttner grew up in the Berlin district of Kreuzberg and did an apprenticeship as an art glass . From 1906 to 1911 he studied painting , graphics and book illustration with Emil Orlik at the teaching facility of the Kunstgewerbemuseum Berlin . Büttner became a member of the German Association of Artists , from 1908 he was a member of the Artists' Association of the Berlin Secession and took part in their group exhibitions with his works.
In 1913 Büttner had his first solo exhibition in the Gurlitt Gallery , his main creative period was in the 1920s.
Erich Büttner died withdrawn in 1936 at the age of 47 in Freiburg.

Büttner's work is shaped by the colourfulness and form dynamics of Expressionism, his focus is on portraits, especially in the 20s he created a whole series of portraits, his preferred motifs were artist friends and writers such as Lovis Corinth , George Grosz , Arno Holz , Adolf Heilborn , Franz Evers , Klabund and Heinrich Zille . Despite the short creative period and the manageable work, his pictures remained attractive to museums and private buyers. There are works by him in national and international museums such as the Prussian Cultural Heritage Foundation , the Kreuzberg Art Office and the Los Angeles County Museum of Art . A portrait of Heinrich Zille is on display in the Märkisches Museum .

On April 9, 2017, an episode of the NDR's Lieb & Teuer program was broadcast, moderated by Janin Ullmann and filmed in Schloss Reinbek . Among other things, graphics and printing plates by Erich Büttner were discussed with the art historian and exhibition curator of the Hamburger Kunsthalle Daniel Koep. The episode has since been repeated several times.
