Tristão de Alencar Araripe

Tristão de Alencar Araripe (born August 29, 1894 in Conceição do Castelo , Espírito Santo , † November 19, 1969 in Rio de Janeiro ) was a Brazilian marshal .

Life

Alencar Araripe completed an officer training in the army ( Exército Brasileiro ) of the armed forces (Forças Armadas do Brasil) and subsequently found various posts as an officer and staff officer. After his promotion to lieutenant colonel on December 23, 1937, he became a member of the staff of the General Staff School in 1938 and was initially transferred to the reserve in 1940. After his promotion to colonel on December 25, 1940, he was posted to the 13th regiment between 1941 and 1942 and then commander of the 2nd regiment from 1942 and 1943. He was then between 1943 and 1944 commander of the armed forces in the federal territory of Fernando de Noronha in the Atlantic Ocean and from 1944 to 1945 commander of the 4th Military Region (4th Região Militar) .

On April 27, 1945, Alencar Araripe was promoted to brigadier general and served between 1946 and 1949 as the commandant of the General Staff School (Escola do Estado Maior do Exército) . After his promotion to major general on April 9, 1949, he was commander of the 5th Military Region (5th Região Militar) and the 5th Division and was at the special disposal of the General Staff between 1951 and 1952. On May 23, 1952 he was a member of the Supreme Military Tribunal (Superior Tribunal Militar) , which he belonged to December 21, 1959. After he was President of the Supreme Military Tribunal from December 21, 1959 to January 3, 1962, he was again a member of the Superior Tribunal Militar between January 3, 1962 and September 9, 1964 . In 1964 he retired from active military service and received the rank of marshal (Marechal do Exército Brasileiro) .
