Triunfo , officially Município de Triunfu , is at around 1000 m above sea level, the highest town in the state of Pernambuco in Brazil . The city is inland, about 357 km as the crow flies from the column on Praça do Marco Zero , which is in the old town of the federal capital Recife and determines the starting point of all distances in Pernambuco .
Triunfo is mainly arranged around a reservoir. The center of Triunfo is the square in front of the lake in front of the Cine Teatro Guarany, which was built between 1919 and 1922. The big festivals are celebrated there and the young people meet there in the evenings after school.
Triunfo itself, as well as its district Jérico, which belongs to the Município Triunfo and is several kilometers away, lie directly on the border with the state of Paraíba .

The city is only a few kilometers away from the federal highway BR-232, which starts in Recife and can be reached by car from Serra Talhada or from Flores via serpentine roads. A bus connection to the federal capital Recife is available once a day from the small central bus station Terminal Rodoviária . The overnight travel time is around 8 hours. The nearest international airport is in the greater Recife area. Local public transport is only available to a very limited extent. People and goods are usually transported to the houses outside on foot or with pack donkeys and horses. In the city area or to nearby places that can be reached with it, you can also be brought to your destination relatively cheaply as a passenger on small motorbikes, called mototaxi . The central assembly point for the mototaxis is in front of the Theater am See. Some all-terrain station wagons near the bus station offer more or less regular transport to surrounding villages and some sítios that you have to share with many other people and goods.

The place is popular with tourists for its milder climate. The coldest temperature ever recorded in Triunfo is 8 ° C. The Triunfo Carnival is famous far beyond the city's borders and is celebrated loudly by thousands when the temperatures are usually high in summer. One of the tourist attractions is the "Águas Parque", a multi-level water and leisure park. The “Museu do Cangaço” museum in the city shows household items from past generations as well as items from Lampião , a leader of a brutal gang, who is celebrated in Brazil as a kind of folk hero. There you will also find documents and boxes labeled in German from the former “Stella Maris” monastery.
In the vicinity there are several interesting waterfalls named Cachoeira do Grito , Cachoeira do Brocotó , Cachoeira de Canaã and the largest, multi-tiered waterfall in the Cachoeira do Pinga region . The highest point in the state of Pernambuco is the Pico do Papagaio with around 1260 m and is also in the area of Triunfo. On this is an abandoned transmitter station.
There are simple overnight accommodations, so-called pousadas , but also several hotels with restaurants as well as a hotel complex opened above the city in 2005, which can also be reached from the lake in the center with a specially built cable car .

The cultivation of sugar cane dominates around Triunfo . Rapadura , a brown sugar mass, is obtained from the sugar cane by boiling it several times . Cachaça , a sugar cane brandy, is also refined .

According to tradition, the name of the city refers to a won battle against the city of Flores in the valley.
In the past, the area of Triunfo also included the now independent city of Santa Cruz da Baixa Verde, about 5 km to the west.
Almost all recently published road maps indicate a non-existent route, from Serra Talhada directly to Triunfo, which does not, as in fact, go through the village of Jatiúca-PE and the city of Santa Cruz da Baixa Verde-PE. However, due to the great differences in altitude between the two cities, such a direct route is not possible.
There is a functioning garbage disposal in Triunfo, the water containers on the houses can be filled with fresh water once or twice a week, the voltage of the usually 2-pole sockets is 220 V at 60 Hz. Occasional power outages, especially during violent thunderstorms, are to be expected.
