Tromlingene is an archipelago and is located in the municipality of Arendal in Agder , Norway , in front of the municipality's largest island, Tromøy . It is part of the moraine landscape protection area and the first place south of Jomfruland where the moraine rises from the sea.
Flora Fauna
The eastern part of the island includes a bird sanctuary , the western part is under nature protection due to its valuable wetlands . The flora consists mainly of grass species and can be interspersed with juniper . There are no trees growing on the island and the ground consists of sand and pebbles. Nevertheless, there is a biodiversity of over 200 different plants and around 130 species of birds, including around 30 different waders .
Origin of name
Tromlingene means Småtromøyene (Small Trom Islands). The name itself comes from the word Þruma and possibly comes from thramer , which means edge or edge.
history
Tromlingene is mentioned in several older texts and 29 large and small cairn tombs from the Bronze Age and the Viking Age are documented. In 1207 a battle between the parties birkebeinerne and baglerne took place here.
