Flora Fauna

The eastern part of the island includes a bird sanctuary , the western part is under nature protection due to its valuable wetlands . The flora consists mainly of grass species and can be interspersed with juniper . There are no trees growing on the island and the ground consists of sand and pebbles. Origin of name

Tromlingene means Småtromøyene (Small Trom Islands). The name itself comes from the word Þruma and possibly comes from thramer , which means edge or edge.

history

Tromlingene is mentioned in several older texts and 29 large and small cairn tombs from the Bronze Age and the Viking Age are documented. In 1207 a battle between the parties birkebeinerne and baglerne took place here.
