The trumpeter stone

The trumpeter stone is a cross stone in the town of Bruchköbel in the Main-Kinzig district in the German state of Hesse . The hall monument from the 17th century is a memorial stone made of red Main sandstone in the form of a disc cross with a base.

history

The trumpeter stone comes from the Thirty Years War (1618–1648). It was moved in 1976 from its location in the Bruchköbeler Wald at the Dicke Eiche leisure area to its current location at the Inner Ring at the confluence with the Kellereigasse in the city area. Originally, the stone was placed in the area of today's church settlement , a southern part of Bruchköbel . A plaque placed in front of the stone briefly informs about its history. The inscription engraved on the cross is no longer legible due to severe weathering and other damage. A local legend reports that the stone was donated by the citizens of Bruchköbel - to commemorate a military trumpeter who, during the siege of Bruchköbel in 1635 , warned the residents of approaching enemy troops with his trumpet and was killed in the process.
