Trophis montana is a species of the mulberry family(Moraceae).
features
Trophis montana is a slender tree that reaches a height of 10 meters. It has hanging slender branches.
The alternate leaves are arranged in a petiole and a leaf blade. The petiole is 8 to 10 mm long. The simple, entire leaf blade is 6 to 9 cm long and 2.5 to 3.5 cm wide and is elliptical to obovate with a pointed to tail tip. The triangular-egg-shaped stipules are 1 to 1.5 mm long.
Trophis montana is dioecious diocesan . The flowers are usually four-fold with a simple flower envelope . The yellow, male flowers are arranged in spherical, racemose inflorescences . The male flowers have a pistillode and 4 stamens.
The white, pale yellow to reddish-green or -braunen drupes with stylus remains at the top are cm with a length of about 1.3 ovoid to globose and include only a grooved seed (hard core).
status
Trophis montana occurs in Madagascar , the Comoros and Aldabra . In 1980 the botanist Francis Raymond Fosberg reported that this species was already extinct on the Aldabra island of Grand Terre due to the destruction of the vegetation by goats. However, according to the IUCN , few specimens have survived in the Takamaka Grove area of Grand Terre.
Taxonomy
The name Maillardia pendula was published in 1974 by Francis Raymond Fosberg in the Kew Bulletin. All Maillardia species were placed in the genus Trophis by Cornelis Christiaan Berg in 1988 . Synonyms for Trophis montana (Leandri) CCBerg are: Maillardia mandrarensis Leandri , Maillardia montana Leandri , Maillardia occidentalis Leandri , Maillardia orientalis Leandri , Maillardia pendula Fosberg .
