Tropiocolotes wolfgangboehmei is a species of gecko belonging to the genus of the dwarf desert geckos ( Tropiocolotes ). She is only known from central Saudi Arabia . The species of the subgenus Tropiocolotes belongs to the clade of T. steudneri and T. nattereri . The species was first described in 2010 by Thomas Wilms , Mohammed Shobrak and Philipp Wagner and named after their doctoral supervisor , the renowned German herpetologist Wolfgang Böhme .

features

Tropiocolotes wolfgangboehmei is a small gecko with a maximum head-trunk length of 29.4 mm. The tail length of the holotype , an adult female, is 32.8 mm, which is 1.12 times the head-torso length. The body scaling is uniform, the scales overlapping and smooth. There are 58 rows of scales around the middle of the body.

The holotype preserved in 70% ethanol has almost completely lost its color. A black and white illustration of the copy by Kordges (1998) with the six dark transverse bands on the back and the twelve on the tail almost resembles the paratype and shows the same drawing as on its head.

The living color of the paratype is a light brown on the head with a dark brown band that extends from the snout to above the ear opening. A narrow yellow line runs axially from the front of the head to the muzzle, up to the upper limit of the dark brown band. The crease of the eyelid is yellow, the lip flakes and the underside of the head are white. On the back ( dorsal ) Tropiocolotes wolfgangboehmei is light brown with six dark brown transverse bands, between the transverse bands the species is yellowish brown. The basic color of the dorsal sides of the limbs is light brown, with scattered dark brown spots on the rear limbs. The tail is light brown with ten dark brown transverse bands, the underside of the tail is white without drawing.

Habitat

Holotype and paratype come from the region around Ath Thumamah , an area about 90 km northeast of Riyadh . The holotype was found near a small village on the edge of this area. The paratype was found under a stone in a small ravine in the Buwayb slope, a Cretaceous coral reef made of sedimentary rock consisting mainly of limestone and sandstone.
