Trou d'Eau Douce is a place ("Village") on Mauritius . Administratively it belongs to the Village Council Area (VCA) Trou d'Eau Douce. At the 2011 census, the place had 5672 inhabitants.
history
The oldest houses in the village date from the 1650s. On a map by Pieter van der Aa from 1721, Trou d'Eau Douce appears under the name Oostersgat , literally Gatt in the east.
tourism
Trou d'Eau Douce significance for tourism on the island of Mauritius is mainly due to the fact that it is the starting point for boat tours on the Île aux Cerfs , one of the main attractions of Mauritius. Hundreds of speedboats, catamarans and simple ferry boats dock daily at the two landing stages “Trou d'Eau Duce Embarkation point” 1 and 2 to take tourists to the Île aux Cerfs and the waterfalls of the Grand River South East .
The town center itself has no major beaches. However, there are several beaches and hotels on the edge of the bay. The 5-star Hotel Le Touessrok on the south side of the bay around the Ilot Lievres peninsula is well known.
religion
The Catholic Church of Notre-Dame du Bon Secours is located directly on the coastal road. The church was consecrated on July 8, 1990 by Cardinal Jean Margéot , replacing an older chapel. A few hundred meters towards the harbor is the Muslim Roshan Jameer Musjid Mosque, founded in 1957.
