Dimitrios "Dimitris" Katsivelis ( Greek Δημήτριος "Δημήτρης" Κατσίβελης , born October 1, 1991 in Thermi ) is a Greek basketball player who is 1.98 m tall and can be used as a point guard or shooting guard .
Career
At club level
Katsivelis learned to play basketball in the youth department of Mantoulidis and was appointed to their first team during the 2009/10 season, which was then in the Beta Ethniki , the third highest division in Greek basketball. For the following season, the first division Olympiacos signed him and equipped the young talent with a five-year contract. Katsivelis followed his former teammate Kostas Sloukas to Piraeus , who had already started his professional career two years earlier at Olympiakos and also played in various youth teams in Mantoulidis.
Katsivelis made his competitive debut in the A1 Ethniki on October 23, 2010 in the away game against Aris Saloniki which Olympiakos outclassed with 78:65 points. On the side of the guests, Vasilis Spanoulis, who also played his first competitive game for Olympiacos, was particularly convincing after he moved from arch-rival Panathinaikos to Piraeus during the summer break . Together they celebrated the national cup victory and thus the first title for Katsivelis that season. With Olympiacos, the Guard won two more Greek championships in the following years and twice the ULEB Euroleague , the most highly endowed competition for club teams in European basketball.
Over the years, Katsivelis continued to refine his game at Olympiakos and was an integral part and reliable backup of his team, but he never really got beyond his reserve role. For the 2015/16 season , after his contract with Olympiakos had expired, he decided not to extend it, but to switch to AEK Athens , where he should take on more responsibility. However, he missed the start of the season due to an injury. On January 3, 2016, the twelfth matchday of that season, the AEK was defeated by the Panathinaikos with 64:67 points. In this game Katsivelis came to his 100th appearance in the Greek first division. However, he left this again in the summer of 2016 after he could not set the decisive accents at the AEK in order to play in the fixed rotation of the squad. Katsivelis moved to the VTB United League and to BK Astana . He made his debut for the Kazakh basketball team on October 22, 2016 in a game against VEF Rīga , which Astana won with 66:64 points. Katsiveli's contribution to the win was seven points, four assists, four rebounds and two blocks, with 26:39 minutes of playing time.
National team
Katsivelis went through all of Greece's youth national teams. He won the gold medal at the 2008 European Championships alongside Papanikolaou , Mantzaris and Sloukas with the Greek U-18 selection. In the final, the Greek team met the Lithuanian selection, which they defeated with 57:50 points.
At the U-19 Basketball World Cup in New Zealand in 2009 , the Greek selection around Katsivelis also reached the final, but lost to the Americans in Auckland with 88:80 points.
There was again silver at the European Championships 2010 after the Greek U-20 selection failed to the French U-20. The French prevail with 73:62 points.
For the senior squad Katsivelis made his debut on August 9, 2013. For the then upcoming European Championship he was not considered by the then national coach Andrea Trinchieri .
