Trumbull is an unincorporated community in Ellis County , Texas in the United States .

Trumbull is located 20 kilometers northeast of Waxahachie as the crow flies and 35 kilometers southeast of Dallas , right on Interstate Highway 45 . Neighboring towns and villages are Ferris in the north, India in the northeast, Bristol in the southeast, Palmer in the south and Rockett and Pecan Hill in the west.

history

Trumbull was founded in 1872 shortly after the Houston and Texas Central Railway was built through the area. In its early days, the settlement was called Switch , later the settlement was known as Ghost Hill and Mackie . After the establishment of the post office in 1894 (according to other sources 1896) the place was called Clemma . On April 20, 1904, the settlement was finally named Trumbull , named after JA Trumbull, a high-ranking employee of the railway company. Shortly after the name was changed, the post office was closed, and Trumbull has belonged to the city of Ferris since then.

The place has always been agricultural, in particular characterized by the production of cotton . At the beginning of the 20th century, Trumbull had three grocery stores, a bank, a gas station, a wood yard, a hairdresser and a doctor's office. In 1912 the village had a village school up to eighth grade about three kilometers east. In 1925 there were 150 inhabitants in Trumbull, this number remained constant over the following years. In 1933 there were still seven shops in the village, by 1945 that number had dropped to three. Also in 1945 the school in Trumbull was closed and the village was incorporated into the Ferris school district. After that, the population of Trumbull began to decline, in 1952 only about 65 inhabitants were recorded. Trumbull had two churches, one of which burned down before 1971.

During the 1960s, Interstate Highway 45 was built east of Trumbull, and the place was also given a junction. For 1986 there were no more establishments in the village. In 1990 Trumbull had about 65 inhabitants, the number of inhabitants remained constant until 2000. The population of Trumbull is not officially recorded.
