Trupert Ortlieb

Trupert Ortlieb (* 1839 in the Grand Duchy of Baden ; † 1911 ) was a German brewer . His Victor Brewery in Philadelphia was under the direction of his son Henry F. as Henry F. Ortlieb Brewing Company known.

biography

Trupert Ortlieb emigrated to the USA at the age of 20 . His original plan was to build a farm, but he found work in a brewery in New York City . In 1861 he enrolled in the 41st Regiment of Infantry of New York and took part in the Civil War as a soldier . In June 1864 he was wounded and discharged from service. However, four months later he resumed military service with a force in New Jersey . In July 1865 he was released from the service again.

He then moved to Philadelphia and opened the Saloon Ortlieb’s Jazzhaus . When his beer supplier raised the price in 1866, he founded the Weiss Beer Brewery at 1312 Germantown Avenaue. 13 years later he bought August Koehl's brewery at 845 North 3rd Street and renamed it Victor Brewery. In the years that followed, Ortlieb's sons joined his brewery. Henry F. became its president in 1894 - she was named after his name. The brewery grew steadily under Henry's leadership.

When Ortlieb retired, he retired to the family farm in Lansdale . He died in 1911. Under the management of his son Henry F., the Ortlieb brewery survived prohibition and was able to expand rapidly in the post-war period. In 1981 it was sold to C. Schmidt & Sons .

Trupert Ortlieb was married to a woman named Margaretha. Together they had six sons and a daughter:
