Troop catering is a form of catering in which members of the military receive hot and cold meals prepared according to fixed, locally and culturally different basic standards. It is divided into several meals and mostly consumed collectively during garrison service. During the deployment, food is either prepared by units of the rear security under field-like conditions (e.g. in field kitchens ) or provided to the soldiers in the form of various one-man or group rations.

Bundeswehr food stamps around 1975

The meal rate for members of the armed forces in 2019 is a total of € 8.37 for three complete meals, breakfast (€ 1.77), lunch and dinner (€ 3.30 each). The issue in the troop kitchens takes place after the respective food stamp has been handed in. Unredeemed food tokens can be submitted to the accounting officer and paid out. In the morning, a breakfast buffet is provided, and at lunchtime you can choose between at least two menus. A salad bar is also available for lunch. Drinks are part of meals.

In addition, there is a special stockpiling plan for the submarine flotilla, which is based on the extraordinary stress on the soldiers on board.

In the National People's Army of the GDR there were two basic norms (see table) that were supposed to cover the daily needs of the army members. Soldiers with higher physical demands were entitled to the higher basic standard.

Unitized Group Ration B (UGR-B)

The US armed forces are currently catering for the common troops through the Unitized Group Ration A (UGR-A), a modular system for supplying 50 people each with a meal. In the absence of field kitchens, UGR-A can be heated with the agents it contains. The systems also contain materials for presentation and output. The rations are according to different requirements annually ( kcal requirements leading different types of inserts, vegetarian , kosher or halal -Preparations) recalculated.
