The Chad ( English Lake Chad ) is a small lake in East Antarctic Victoria Land . In the Taylor Valley it is east of the mouth of the Suess Glacier and west of the Hoaresees .
The western group of the Terra Nova Expedition (1910-1913) led by the Australian geologist Thomas Griffith Taylor (1880-1963) under the direction of the British polar explorer Robert Falcon Scott mapped it in the spring of 1911 and named it after Lake Chad in Africa.
The lake covers an area of about 0.15 km² and reaches a maximum depth of 5.5 m with a length of about 1000 m and a width of about 230 m.
