Chkalovskaya (Moscow Metro)
Tschkalovskaja ( Russian Чка́ловская ( ), scientific transliteration Čkalovskaja ) is a subway station on the Ljublinsko-Dmitrowskaja line of the Moscow Metro . It was put into operation on December 28, 1995 as part of the first construction phase of the line and was its northern terminus until it was extended to the north on August 30, 2007.
description
The metro station is located in the east of central Moscow , 51 meters below the Semljanoi Wal expressway (Russian Земляной вал , literally "earth wall"), which is part of the garden ring around the historic Moscow city center. From 1939 to 1992 this street was called Ulitsa Tschkalowa in honor of the early Soviet test pilot Valeri Tschkalow , which - despite the renaming of the street - became decisive for the name of the subway station. In the immediate vicinity of the entrance to the underground station is the reception building of the Kursk station , as well as the Kurskaya metro station on the Arbatsko-Pokrovskaya line and the station of the same name on the ring line . From Chkalovskaya there are also direct transfer options to these two stations. The access to the Arbatsko-Pokrovskaya line is at the northern end of the platform, the entrance to the counter hall and from there to the ring line or the exit can be reached from the southern end of the platform.
architecture
The architectural equipment of the Chkalovskaya station, which was carried out under the direction of the well-known underground architect Nina Aljoschina , was essentially based on the traditions of the 1980s, compared to stations in the 1960s and early 1970s significantly more emphasis was placed on individuality and artistic components. The Chkalovskaya platform hall in particular was kept entirely in gray-blue tones, the arcade-like rows of pylons , which are not uncommon for Moscow metro stations, are clad in white-blue marble and the floor consists of black and gray granite slabs . Some stylistic elements of the station were based on the theme of aviation : the arch-shaped vault of the hall, in combination with the likewise arch-shaped arrangement of the lights, is reminiscent of the interior of an aircraft fuselage or a hangar , and the marble cladding above the Both platform exits are patterned with stylized motifs that allude, among other things, to Chkalov's North Pole flight.
