Tsuda Kyōsuke ( Japanese 津 田 恭介 ; born February 10, 1907 in Taiwan ; died June 17, 1999 ) was a Japanese pharmacist and organic chemist .

Live and act

Tsuda Kyōsuke graduated from Tōkyō University in 1929 . After he had worked as an associate professor at his alma mater and at the Institute for Infectious Diseases, he became a professor at Kyushu University in 1951 , where he founded the Department of Pharmacy. In 1954 he continued his education at the ETH Zurich under Leopold Stephen Ružika (1887–1976).

In 1955 Tsuda was appointed professor of the Institute of Applied Microbiology at Tōkyō University and professor of pharmacy. In 1957 he received the Japan Pharmaceutical Association (日本 薬 剤 師 会, Nihon Yakusaishi kai) award. In 1965 he received the Asahi Culture Prize for the “isolation and determination of the chemical structure of the puffer fish poison” because of his separation and purification method. In 1966 he was awarded the Prize of the Academy of Sciences for “Chemical Research on Legume Alkaloids on Kushin Basis”. He was adopted by the university as "Meiyo Kyōju".

Tsuda was a member of the " Science Council of Japan ", director of the "Institute for Applied Microbiology" of Tōkyō University, president of the "Central Pharmaceutical Affairs Council", president of the "Pharmaceutical Society of Japan", president of the "Kyoritsu Pharmaceutical University" (共 立薬 科 大学, Kyoritsu yakka daigaku), which later joined Keiō University . He was a member of the Academy of Sciences .

In 1980 Tsuda was honored as a person with special cultural merits , in 1982 he was awarded the Order of Culture . His books include "Method of organic trace analysis" (有機 微量 分析 法, Yūki biryō bunseki-hō) from 1965.

  2. Meiyo Kyōju (名誉 教授) is occasionally rendered in German as "Professor emeritus". But in contrast to this title, which is automatically used on retirement, this is a special award only occasionally granted in Japan.
